As we were saying, texting apps have gained more popularity over SMS. Mobile messaging apps are more popular than ever as they provide rich services offering all kinds of interactions with others, from free text messaging to voice and video calling, and to photo and file sharing. Currently we can find many different applications that allow us to engage in constant and instant communication with our family, friends and even work colleagues.
On one hand, we have IM (instant messaging) applications such as WhatsApp, Viber, Telegram, Line, WeChat or Hangouts, which were originally created for messaging. Due to the increasing popularity of these applications, new functions have been added such as sharing documents, making free phone and video calls or even sending money.
On the other hand, social networks such as Facebook, Instagram or Snapchat started as websites where people could share their lifestyle by uploading pictures, videos or simply thoughts. Later, these social networks developed their own chats (Facebook Messenger, Instagram Direct…) in a way that people using these applications could also maintain private conversations without the necessity of using another different app.
